Ah, the awkward ABOUT ME section where I am supposed to convey my charming wit and keen photographic skills in a cleverly worded paragraph. The dilemma, of course, is not sounding like a narcissist. I could write it in the third person, but alas, I am the sole employee of VHP and it would be totally obvious. Nothing says weirdo like writing about yourself in the third person. First person is clearly the only option yet there's an inherent risk of sounding like a bad dating profile - I like coffee and books and long walks on the beach. At the risk of sounding cliche (I'm passionate about photography! ) or somewhat suspicious (I love to shoot people! ... wait! with a camera! ) I'll just leave you with a simple bio and hope you like my photography better than my writing.
bio: Mother of three delightful, if somewhat tiring, kids seeks date night with her hubby, eight hours of sound sleep each night, travel and more fabulous couples to photograph.
And if you want to know what kind of gear I use, I'm a Nikon gal. I'm sorta addicted to using the 70-200 mm on my D3s.
Kind Words from Clients
"Valerie not only produced the most amazing pictures my husband and I could have asked for, but she also created a personal and loving experience for the both of us. She was not just photographer by the time that the wedding rolled around. She was a welcomed guest. I could not speak highly enough of her as a person or a professional photographer. We love seeing the precious moments she captured for us, and she really went the extra mile. We received digital copies (both watermarked for social media use, and unmarked for personal prints) of all of the pictures in a very timely manner, and we were shocked by all of the moments she had caught on camera on such a quick paced and busy day.Valerie will be the very first person we call when we announce a baby sometime in the next few years!" - Deanna S., engagement & wedding
"The whole experience with Valerie was fantastic! I appreciated her professionalism but also her willingness to get personable. She was organized - a rare quality! The quality of prints were great - not just artistic but thorough as well. Best of all, she was easy to work with, considering our haphazard family :) Valerie was efficient and kind, if you're considering her at all, just give her a call, it'll be worth" - Rakhi B., private celebration event
"Thank you Valerie Hawkins for helping us get through the chaos that was our wedding day. The pictures are gorgeous and I will cherish them always." - Stephanie S, engagement & wedding
"On April 21st 2017 Valerie photographed our wedding. Valerie is absolutely amazing. I know I would have been lost without her. She helped me with the timeline of wedding events, poses for the best photographic shots, and pretty much keeping the time line moving. Any major event going forward in our lives I know we would like Valerie there to capture those moments. Thank you so much Valerie for making our wedding a magical event that we will remember everyday for the rest of our lives. " - Statira P, engagement & wedding
"Where to even start! Val was beyond amazing and we are so happy that we chose her to capture our special day! My husband is not a big fan of photos, but after the amazing, genuine moments she captured during our engagement session we knew we had found the perfect fit for our wedding day. Her photos are beautiful and creative. But what we loved most was her personality! When she is shooting she makes things so comfortable. Nothing feels posed, and she continued to make us laugh throughout each photo session, keeping the mood fun and care free. She was a godsend throughout the wedding day, keeping us on time without being pushy, and adapting to any issue that came up (even got her hands dirty when I broke a bottle of Champaign getting ready, and busted out the broom and dustpan!) Her shooting style throughout the ceremony and reception was wonderful, never distracting but still caught all the great moments and we will be forever thankful for her and her photos to remember our big day. At the reception, we didn’t even notice she was there, she is so non invasive- and the photos are amazing! I would highly recommend Valerie Hawkins Photography to make your big day stress free, and to capture the beautiful moments you want to remember the rest of your life. THANK YOU!!" - Lizzie D.
"Valerie did an amazing job with our engagement and wedding photos. She makes you feel comfortable and genuinly cares about your big day. The quality was top knotch and you could tell how much passion goes into it. We both loved her." - Jessica & Josh
"So this is a little late. Our wedding was May 27, and it’s been a little chaotic since we got back from the honeymoon. But that’s not an excuse. :) I was really impressed with VHP's portfolio as it was close to what I had envisioned for my own photos. After meeting with Valerie, I was also impressed with her work ethic, creative drive, and vision. I knew it would be a collaborative partnership. After we discussed the schedule with Valerie, I knew I didn't have to worry. She was able to direct those for the photos, and keep us on schedule. She took the effort to work with you and make everything all work out. I knew there were times I was a little pushy creatively (hey, I'm a designer), but she didn't ever act like I limited her creatively. Valerie was great to be around, and we were very pleased with both the engagement and wedding photos. The albums are gorgeous and Valerie was so patient in finalizing our photo picks for those. I highly recommend Valerie for any photographic needs, and I’m definitely keeping her in mind for any future photo ideas (maybe, babies?) :D" - Amanda
